In August 2001, Tad McIntosh stood at the edge of a new beginning. With a background in both HR and recruiting—and formative years spent as an Army Infantry Officer and later in military recruiting—he had seen firsthand the challenges of scaling talent. Recruiting for a fast-growing Dallas telecom company, Tad helped the company grow from 15 employees to 150, and with that growth came a question: how do you build infrastructure and talent at the same time?

That question became the seed for HumCap.

After some prayer and deliberation with his wife and mentors, Tad stood in the backyard of his home in Highland Park, Texas, looking at the small garage that would soon transform from his Ironman training gym, into HumCap’s first office. It wasn’t much—just enough space for three desks, phones, and a vision—but it was where everything began. Tad’s first hire was a recruiter, which then grew to a team of three in the garage office. Accompanied by Tad’s three young sons playing alongside in the backyard, he began juggling the demands of family life with the dream of building something that could serve others.

The first HumCap mission was bold and faith-driven: “We glorify God while helping our clients win the war for talent.” The original values—Serve with Leadership, Work Heartily, Win as a Team, and Improve Constantly—were lived out in every interaction. Over the years, these values have evolved, but the heart remains the same. Today, HumCap’s mission is: Serve customers, people, and community with excellence. And our core values—Be Better Every Day, Deliver Results, and Persevere with Grit—continue to guide us.

HumCap’s first client signed on September 6, 2001. The first retainer checks arrived on September 10. The next day, the world changed. The tragic events of 9/11 cast a shadow over everything, and the early years were marked by uncertainty and struggle. Tad persevered, fueled by faith and grit. The back house became a hub of activity, with phones ringing, toddlers playing nearby, and a small team working tirelessly to continue to build something meaningful. Through the years, despite challenges, one truth always remained: a business’s most important asset is their human capital. And HumCap, had become the experts in people.

Quickly, HumCap became a second family—sharing in the vision, the challenges, and the small victories that slowly added up. By 2003, momentum was building. They outgrew the garage and moved into its first official office in Addison. In 2006, HumCap was featured in the Dallas Business Journal highlighting their growth: a perfect snapshot of the entrepreneurial spirit and the family-first culture that defined HumCap.

As the company grew, so did its footprint. HumCap moved from Addison to a larger office in Richardson. That move marked a turning point—from startup hustle to established presence. Over the years, HumCap continued to expand eventually settling into its current home in Plano, where the team now gathers under the same roof, united by purpose and shared history.

HumCap’s journey has been marked by celebration as much as perseverance. We’ve honored milestones together—through holiday parties, team retreats, baby showers, engagements, and heartfelt moments that remind us we’re more than coworkers; we’re a work family. Proof that the HumCap family continues to grow in more ways than one.

Along the way, HumCap has earned recognition for its impact:

But perhaps the most meaningful impact has come through service. As a Veteran founded, owned, and operated company, HumCap is proud to have over 25% of their workforce comprised of veterans. Being NVBDC and NaVOBA certified, HumCap’s passion for helping Veterans grow their civilian careers continues. HumCap’s mission to serve people, customers, and community continues to grow in many different ways. Tad has led HumCap in giving back over $300,000 to the community and established a $50,000 endowed scholarship for first-generation STEM students at UT Dallas, along with contributing to scholarships at the Hendrick Scholarship Foundation and the Army Scholarship Foundation. His leadership extends beyond business—he serves as Vice Chair of Member Services on the Tech Titans board and is a member of the UT Dallas Jonsson School Executive Council.

As Tad shared in a recent podcast, “You’re either growing or you’re shrinking. There is no neutral.” At 58, he’s not chasing more—he’s choosing what to grow: his mind, his strength, and his impact. That philosophy is woven into HumCap’s DNA. Growth isn’t just about performance—it’s about perspective. And sustainable growth honors health, relationships, and contribution.

As we celebrate 24 years of HumCap and step into year 25, we’re not just counting time—we’re honoring a legacy. From the back house to boardrooms, from toddlers to a thriving team of 30+, HumCap’s story is one of grit, family, and growth. And the best part? We’re still growing.
